Privacy Policy
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy explains how the AppAtlas macOS application ("AppAtlas," "we," or "the app") handles information when you use it. It applies to the AppAtlas application, not to third-party websites or services that you choose to visit.
2. Data collection
AppAtlas does not collect personal data from the app. In particular, AppAtlas does not transmit app names, bundle identifiers, file paths, installer information, scan history, tags, notes, or hashes to us or to third parties.
The current version contains no account system, advertising SDK, analytics SDK, crash-reporting SDK, tracking technology, or cloud synchronization service.
If you choose to submit a public GitHub support request, GitHub may display your account name and the content you provide. We use that voluntarily submitted information only to understand and respond to the request. It is not collected by the AppAtlas application. You can edit your own submission using GitHub's controls or ask the repository maintainer to remove content.
3. Information processed locally
To provide its features, AppAtlas may read and process the following information on your Mac:
- Application names, versions, build numbers, bundle identifiers, locations, code-signing information, executable architectures, and running status.
- File and folder names, sizes, counts, modification dates, and storage categories inside application bundles and installer locations.
- Installer file information for supported formats such as DMG, PKG, MPKG, XIP, ZIP, and valid application bundles.
- SHA-256 hashes of eligible installer files for local duplicate detection.
- Scan notices, scan history, categories, tags, notes, and ignored-item preferences that you create or that the app generates locally.
This processing occurs on your Mac. These records are not uploaded by AppAtlas.
4. File and folder access
AppAtlas runs in the macOS App Sandbox and uses least-privilege access:
- It scans system-approved application locations and uses read-only access to the Downloads folder.
- Desktop and other custom folders are scanned only after you select and authorize them through the macOS folder picker.
- AppAtlas stores macOS security-scoped bookmarks locally so that authorized folders can remain available for future scans.
- You can remove a folder authorization in AppAtlas settings. Removing authorization does not delete files from that folder.
5. Local storage and retention
AppAtlas stores its scan index and scan history inside the app's sandboxed Application Support container. Language selection, app settings, and authorized-folder bookmarks are stored locally using macOS application preferences.
Local data remains on your Mac until you delete the scan index, remove a folder authorization, reset the app, or remove the app's container. Retention may therefore depend on actions you take in AppAtlas or macOS.
6. Deleting local data and revoking access
- Use Privacy & Settings → Delete Scan Index to remove the locally stored app list, installer list, tags, notes, and scan history. This does not modify external applications or installer files.
- Use the Authorized Folders section to remove a saved folder authorization.
- Because AppAtlas has no accounts and does not receive your scan data, there is no server-side AppAtlas profile or scan history for us to delete.
7. File operations
AppAtlas performs file operations only after a user-initiated action and confirmation. Eligible non-system applications and installer files can be moved to the macOS Trash. AppAtlas does not permanently erase items or automatically empty the Trash. System applications remain read-only. Opening an application or revealing an item uses standard macOS workspace and Finder functions.
8. Sharing, selling, and tracking
AppAtlas does not sell personal data, share scan data with third parties, track users across apps or websites, or use data for advertising. AppAtlas does not request App Tracking Transparency permission because it does not perform tracking.
9. Network access and third-party services
The current AppAtlas application does not use a network service to operate and does not include third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
This policy and the support pages are hosted by GitHub Pages. When you visit this website, GitHub may process technical information under the GitHub General Privacy Statement. GitHub's website processing is separate from the AppAtlas application.
10. Children’s privacy
AppAtlas is a general-purpose utility and does not knowingly collect personal data from children or other users.
11. Changes to this policy
If AppAtlas's data practices change, this policy will be updated before or when the relevant app version is released. The date at the top identifies the latest revision.
